AUCTION, ESTELLE and RAPHAEL SAADIQ

Yeah it’s true some people source a lot of their passion for New Music from the well of snobbery, fashionista and all-round obsessive desire to be ahead of the crowd. For me it’s all about the buzz of hearing a track for the very first time that really grabs you. It’s the musical equivalent of losing your virginity albeit it happens again and again and it’s always magical, never quick and traumatic.

AUCTION were the first musical act to pop me this week, proving to be experienced, loving and generous musical lovers. I think they’re debut single ‘Statues’ is ace, incredible quality for a first-timer, I’m doubting their virgin status! Either this is a record label stitch up or they are an authentic grassroots discovery destined for great things.

In this current Urban Music age where Hip-Hop and RnB have merged and morphed (at least Chart wise) into a singular Sickly David Getta Inspired Electro Pop sound it’s good to see one of my favourite Black Music singers repping a genuine, soulful sound. Gotta be honest I doubt ESTELLE’s new track ‘Break My Heart’ will reach the radio-play heights of her back catalogue but I really like it.

Keeping it soulful (it must be the sun) the tracks I have heard off RAPHAEL SAADIQ’s album all sound divine. The stand out for me at the moment is ‘Moving Down The Line’ but it really does change every time the weather does. What a voice, borderline medicinal, doctors should prescribe this shizzle.
