I don’t know much about BROODS do you? ‘Mother & Father’ is the sound of another female fronted sultry electronic act with cross over potential that’s absolutely nailing it. From the biggies like Lana and Lorde to the about to be biggies like Indiana and Banks BROODS sound next to me. Sultry, groove laden and most importantly ridiculously catchy this track hints at big things ahead.
‘My Type’ by SAINT MOTEL ain’t going to win any awards for musical subtlety but that said who gives a flying fuck about musical subtlety anyway? This is a monstrously big Indie Funk Pop record, cliche alert, that it’s impossible to listen to without cracking a smile. Unless of course you’d rather inject heroin in your eyes then listen to happy music in which case this will probably make you, well, want to inject something painful in your eyes. I’m opting for the smiling version of crack.
ST. PAUL & THE BROKEN BONES are a band that will impact your ears and eyes in equal measure, and in both cases we’re talking a lot of impact. The lead singer is the soulfulist black man you’ve ever heard, but in the body of an overweight Alan Carr. This is one mother flipping huge sensory juxtaposition. Quirky look to one side (and no matter how much you wanna focus on the music it is difficult for UK peeps to place to one side) your ears really are in the presence of something special when met with the music of these guys. Hard to pick out a stand out track as their delivery is so stand out every track feels special but if pushed I’d suggest starting with ‘Call Me’. Re live, fuck suggesting, an absolute must to experience – book your tickets now.
