Man (or woman) I do like a bopp, much to the detriment of my aspirations to ever procreate. Whatever the genre, if a piece of funk endowed New Music comes on the stereo, or even worse late night drinking establishment speakers, I’m the first male on the dancefloor which combined with my camp moves creates major doubt over my claim to enjoy the company of the female more than the male. ‘Cool Like Me’ by FRYARS is exactly the sort of track that forces me to pull the sort of moves that will ensure I’ll die alone, but hey I’ll have the best soundtrack in the old peeps home. Maybe by then the ladies will be less fussy? Here’s hoping.
As we’re on the metaphorical dancefloor and I can’t make any bigger twat out of myself than I already have let’s stay and chat about the latest anthem in the making from GRUM. This dude specialises in big, huge, mahoosive (you get the idea) electronic tunes of the most monstrously gargantuan hands in the air variety. Guaranteed to make you feel good unless you don’t like this kinda vibe in which case on hearing you’ll suffer the musical equivalent of anaphylactic shock, vom and possibly die.
SAN FERMIN’s ‘Sonsick’ is an altogether different proposition, one that I’m struggling to find the words to do justice, I just like it ok? Mildly pleasant verses are accompanied by a truly rousing chorus that pushes the high notes to their human limits. So yeah enjoy the verses, worship the chorus.
THE BLACK ANGELS new single is a classically (for them) tripped out affair which could easily have been written in 1968, and I mean that in a good way. ‘You’re Mine’ is groovy, ‘You’re Mine’ is trippy, ‘You’re Mine’ is fucking sexy. ‘You’re Mine’ sounds like a song that would have more than held it’s own as a record by The Doors.
