If The Divine Comedy Had Been Born In Detroit Not Ireland

As he often does Steve Lamacq very kindly introduced me to a new band the other day (well this afternoon but I’m listening again, the show went out old-skool style Mon eve). He had THE BOOKHOUSE BOYS in session who as he mentioned have a very film scorey vibe about them, add in a hint of Divine Comedy if Neil watsit had been born in downtown Detroit not Ireland and you’re just about there.

Both tracks were really good but if pushed I’d select ‘I Can’t Help Myself’ as my fav, definitely worth some listen again action.

Much more chilled out and laid back, so much so that there is more than a hint of Beach Boys about them, are THE ASH AND THE OAK. Hailing not from California but Wales I believe I really like their ‘Inside Out’ tack which judging by the less than 200 plays its had on their MySpace is a bona fide yet to be discovered gem, just like we love on Brand Nu.

I’m conscious that everything is a bit guitary this week but I just had the pleasure of hearing a lot of bands in the last couple of days. On a vey different vibe to the above two are the very quirky and high energy JAGUAR LOVE. Forgive me if this sounds blasphemous but something about ‘Highways Of Gold’ makes me think of Teenage Kicks??
