SHARON JONES + THE DAB-KINGS, RAINY BOY SLEEP and JAMES VINCENT MCMOROW

Happy New Year!

Gotta say you’re looking pretty good considering all that raving you’ve been doing, what’s your secret? I’m still feeling rougher than a sandpaper reinforced badger’s arse.

But (que cheesy voice)

There’s always the sweet sound of New Music to help me recover. Cough.

There genuinely is something soothing and almost medicinal about SHARON JONES and THE DAB-KINGS. Clearly an old skool combo who’ve been doing their thing for time, this aural beauty shows they can both still write and perform. You gotta check out “Aint No Chimneys In The Project” – especially if you’re feeling rough.

More soothing vibes to nurse that prolonged NYE hangover courtesy of RAINY BOY SLEEP. ‘Your Face’ is a beautiful track, really beautiful, that simple. Great track to cry to when you’ve been dumped, or soundtrack a American teen soap opera (the two are kinda linked aren’t they?).

Completing our January Triple Hit of Soothing Vibes is another piece of New Music from Ireland. Another stunningly beautiful track by an artist I’d never heard of until the year 2011 arrived. JAMES VINCENT MCMOROW has more than a hint of ‘I can’t quite put my finger on it’ about his voice. ‘If I Had A Boat’ poses that big question we’ve all asked ourselves many times.
