I guess a lot of people will be saying this, in fact one or two probably already have – SHELTERPOINT sound a lot like a male London Grammar. But there are boys in LG I hear you pedantically cry. You know what I mean – male fronted, male vocaled. It’s a one liner as predictable as it is, that may soon sound very apt, it gives your ears an immediate idea what to expect when they check out ‘Serenity’. Blissful, melancholy electrophonic music. I likey.
If you tweaked blissful, melancholy electrophonic music to blissful, melancholic pop with a touch of something it’s quite hard to put your finger on, you wouldn’t be a billion miles off describing ‘Seashells’ by FLORRIE. Sounding (and looking) like a Caucasian MIA, if the rest of Florrie’s debut record is like this we’re in for a fuck off massive treat.
A fortnight ago the return of the Klaxons made us ponder whether the planet had been zapped by Aliens back to 2007, well I suspect those pesky aliens have been at it again this time subtly transporting us back to 1999. ‘Touch’ by SHIFT KEY is the musical lovechild the Artful Dodger and Craig David never had, despite that horrific description it sounds great. Should we get some sun this summer this will be the sound of August 2014, just like 1999, but without all that Millennium bug shit freaking everyone out.
