SHIFT KEY, FEM FEL (& FIONA BEVAN) + CHANTAL CLARET

Some tracks scream WEEEKKKKKEEEEEENNNNNNDDDDD louder than a fat kid who’s just discovered his mum’s secret cookie jar.  ‘Make It Good’ by SHIFT KEY is one such song. Feel good, uplifting but also quite contemporary the poppy almost Janet Jackson Esque chorus countered by some grittier dubbier parts to the track.

I worry describing a piece of New Music as ‘interesting’ is potentially patronising, like when someone you’re hoping to sleep with describes you as ‘nice’, ‘cute’ or even worse ‘as like a brother/ sister to them’. Yet ‘interesting’ feels the apt term to describe ‘Over’, a hook up between FEM FEL and FIONA DEVEN, dare I make things even worse by describing it as ‘intelligent’? And what the fuck does that mean anyway? Listen to this interesting and intelligent piece of New Music and you might just develop an element of empathy for where I’m coming from on this, maybe.

‘Bite Your Tongue’ by CHANTAL CLARET requires no such pretentious wannabe music journalist bollocks, BYT is a full on Funk fest of Pop musically as insatiable as Ms Claret’s dance moves imply she might be in certain areas of her life. I hate to comment sexually, obvs it’s the music that matters, but the song, her voice and those moves quite simply ooze sex, sometimes that’s just how it is.
